We Take Action!
Conservation Works supports, develops and creates programs involving natural resources and sustainability in the North Coast. Our mission is broad, and new programs are being developed to nimbly address emerging issues. For example, the need for diverse projects to address fire recovery and resiliency actions since the horriric fires of 2017-2020 have caused Conservation Works to develop a new Fire Resiliency program that varies from innovative ways to address brush control to developing community connections with restoring a burned drinking water supply watershed. Opportunities for timely pivoting to address emerging community needs are constant in these challenging times.
The following are only a few examples of our community enriching programs:
Our pollinator actions are catalysts for change with the goal of healthy pollinator habitat being embraced at all levels of our community. These programs raise awareness about pollinator protection, increase outdoor activities with youth, connect youth to local agriculture, and plant more natural habitat.(see beepatches.org).
Our water resource protection actions include a water conservation program utilizing roof top rainwater collected into storage tanks for later dry season irrigation (see raincatchers.info). Our message is that every drop counts as we build rainwater harvesting systems at schools and engage youth in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) water conservation learning inside and outside the classroom. Watershed projects include landscape level water conservation systes as well as watershed-wide conservation outreach education and action projects.
Our actions to combat Climate Change include a vermiculture waste-to-compost program working with schools to help them divert their food wastes from landfills to onsite bins with that recycle the waste into rich compost material. Our message is that the best recyclers are the littlest creatures as we increase recycling literacy at schools, give youth a way to address climate change, and help build an environmentally focused community. Our community economic support actions are aimed at fostering local sustainable agriculture and resilient communities in the north coast. We support business training for farmers and ranchers, foster sustainable and regenerative agriculture, and help with fire resiliency efforts in our rural communities. (see cultivatingcommerce.org)
