Native Grasslands Projects in Willits
Since 2018, Conservation Works has been partnering with the city of Willits and community members in the restoration of oak woodlands and grassland meadows in Mendocino County along the Davis Creek drainage, within the south fork of the Eel River watershed. Our work has created ongoing environmental protection support for the watershed that serves as the community’s drinking water supply while aiding in the healing of a community struggling to recover from wildfire.
Projects in the watershed have included planting native grasses and oaks, pollinator monitoring and also facilitating school field trips and workshops. Our activities introduce the community of Willits to the importance of grasslands and their role in watershed health and fire ecology.
