Anchor Academy Restoration Actions to Save Redwoods
Can you guess how many truck loads of invasive Acacia trees and English Ivy 23 motivated High School Students can remove from a redwood forest in a couple hours? 5!
Since 2020, Fort Bragg Highs School students and teachers have been restoring a section of the Otis R.Johnson Wilderness Park. Unfortunately, this park is threatened by dozens of exotic plants that have escaped from neighborhood gardens and established themselves in the park- threatening the native Coastal Redwood Forest Ecosystems. Many of these plants, like Acacia Trees and English Ivy are invasive species and need to be manually removed and replaced by native species like redwood trees and understory plants. Conservation Works has recently adopted this park from the City of Fort Bragg and will be continuing to engage youth and the community to help us steward this park.
